How We Got Here

Around this time last year, I started noticing that a growing number of people in the locksport community were interested in 3D-printed tools for their hobby. Several individuals had reached out to me, asking for custom prints. After a couple of months, I began to identify trends in what people wanted and needed.

I considered the possibility of stocking a few of these popular items and listing them for sale, similar to how others in the community (such as LPU) do with a stock spreadsheet.

So, that’s exactly what I did. I created a spreadsheet and listed the few items I had printed in various colors. Fast forward a few months, and I was stocking many more items in a range of colors. By this point, the spreadsheet had become tedious for both me and those wanting to purchase from me.

Many people suggested that I create an online store. I had naturally considered the idea myself but wasn’t sure how long I’d continue making printed parts for people.

As the months passed, I kept making and selling more items. In the first quarter of 2024, I decided to work toward creating a website for orders. However, a few major life events, like moving and family commitments, took priority.

Finally, about three weeks ago, I decided it was time to take the plunge. I researched and selected a platform for hosting my store. Many days and evenings went into setting up the products, taking photos, printing items to keep in stock, testing, writing descriptions, and more.

And now, as you know, the store went live just a few days ago! So far, so good. I’m very happy with where things are at. I’ve received great feedback from people that the ordering process is super easy, which is fantastic! On my end, it’s also been a big improvement. I now spend less time explaining what the products are and writing down order details, and more time keeping things stocked.

What’s Next?

More of the same! Just this morning, I added C-Clips to the product lineup. Moki pick scales will be coming soon. I’m also on the lookout for more items that the locksport community might be interested in.

I’ll continue to fulfill one-off custom requests and design new tools to add to the already excellent selection the community offers.

I’m also focused on finding ways to keep prices low, or even lower them over time, as I become more efficient in running the store.

And, of course, I’ll keep experimenting with exotic color combinations in the 3D printing world. That’s one area where I believe the things I make really stand out
